Jacob Dunkel (b. 1949) is a Los Angeles-based oil painter whose work celebrates the beauty of the natural world and the human spirit and reflects a remarkable personal journey of resilience and rediscovery.
Born in 1949, Jacob founded Crown Coachworks Auto Body & Paint, one of Los Angeles’ most respected family-owned and top-rated auto body shops, which has served the community since 1968. As a dedicated husband, father, and successful businessman, he briefly explored painting in 1977–78 before setting his brushes aside to focus on his growing family and thriving business.
In 2008, Jacob suffered two strokes that tested his strength and determination. Rather than surrender, with the strong encouragement of his wife and kids, he turned to painting as a path to recovery. What began as therapy quickly became a passion he pursued with feverish intensity. Through daily practice, Jacob not only regained full health but also found his true artistic voice.
Working in oil on canvas, his paintings range from serene landscapes and luminous coastal scenes to expressive figures.
Today, Jacob continues to balance his life as a business owner with his life as an artist—painting by night, creating by heart.
